OilSecure help tackle oil theft
Police have warned that with the ever-spiralling cost of home fuel now out of control, theft of fuel in the UK has reached record levels. Channel 4 News recently gathered results from 32 UK police forces to compare fuel thefts between January and June 2007 with the same period this year. Across the UK fuel theft has increased by 222%, with Suffolk seeing increases of over 1,100%.
A tank of fuel is a very valuable asset, is often in an exposed area and one policeman was quoted as saying “It’s like having a tank of liquid gold sitting in your driveway”. As millions of people face the winter with the prospect of fuel poverty, owners are increasingly finding their tanks have been emptied. As most tanks are in remote locations theft can occur even when owners are in the property. The problem is not only limited to homes but is becoming a serious issue for schools and the farming community.
Until now there has been no clear advice on how to secure an oil tank, OilSecure changes all this with the introduction of the OilSecure Tank Alarm. OilSecure is an alarm system designed specifically to secure oil tanks. The alarm uses wireless technology and would be activated should the tank filler caps be attacked.
The alarm not only gives off an audible and visual alarm but can also call nominated numbers, via an additional module, should it be activated. Most importantly it acts as a deterrent. In general, houses that have security in place are over 80% less likely to be attacked than non-secured houses.
